Our Story

Two people who fell for the same mountains

The people behind the food.

The move

Why the Alps, why now

Tim first came to the French Alps in 2011, cycling with his brother — and never really left, at least not in his head. Mo came out a little later, and the mountains got her too: she fell completely in love with the beauty of the place the moment she made the trip herself. For over a decade, "we should live here one day" stayed a standing joke, until in 2024 they finally bought a house in Les Sables, near Bourg-d'Oisans.

The push to actually go for it came in April 2026, when Tim was made redundant after a long career in IT. Rather than starting another job search, he and Mo saw the chance to embrace a complete change of lifestyle — sell up in the UK and move to the mountains they'd both fallen in love with. As Mo puts it: no regrets.

Two business ideas came out of that decision. Maison Mo, because Mo has always shown love through cooking for the people around her, and Tim knows what it's like to ride these mountains all day. And Tim's Team Car, supporting cyclists out on their rides. Different businesses, same reason for both: helping people enjoy the mountains Mo and Tim love.

Maison Mo went from idea to real guests fast — the first camp, a group of triathletes staying at a friend's chalet in Allemond, arrived on 4th July 2026, and the business has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Two people, two roles

Mo

Mo's loved cooking since she was a teenager, learning from every good cook she's crossed paths with along the way. For her, cooking has always been how she shows love for the people around her — and on a Maison Mo week, that just extends to a few more people at the table. She sees every guest as a potential friend, one she hopes will come back again and again.

She calls herself a "have a go cook" rather than a chef — she'll try her hand at anything — but what she really loves is simple: great quality, comforting, homemade food. She's a feeder at heart, and there's nothing she enjoys more than putting proper, wholesome food in front of people who've earned their appetite the hard way, out on the bike or up the mountain.

Outside the kitchen, Mo's looking forward to getting her own vegetable and fruit garden properly established in Les Sables — with any luck, growing a good share of what ends up on the plate.

Tim

Tim jokes that his career has gone "from VP to KP" — and he loves it. After years in IT, culminating in a global VP role, his job on a Maison Mo week now looks like this: sandwiches every morning, the early run to the boulangerie for pastries and bread, helping prep and serve the evening meal, and doing the washing up. He's genuinely happiest catching up with guests about their day on the mountain while he's at it.

He's not just serving cyclists and triathletes — he is one. Tim has completed the Raid Pyrénéen, conquered the Stelvio in the Dolomites, and finished the Vätternrundan in Sweden. Staying focused and training towards a big challenge is something he's good at, and it's exactly what he draws on to understand what guests need after a long day out.

When he's not on the bike, he's teaching himself ukulele fingerpicking, shouting at Aston Villa, or out with a camera trying to catch the Alps' night sky.
